To restore some rigidity to the skin covering, most of the splits were laminated from behind with Japanese Kuratoni paper #219 and glued with a relatively high concentration of Acryloid B-72 in ethanol (consistency of gum). Accessible splits were laminated using mainly ordinary or ceramic magnets (A, B, C), or bandages (D), or weights (E, F), to maintain pressure against the skin and the Japanese paper.
Given the more than 7 metre length of the kayak, several splits were not accessible and were therefore laminated using a tourniquet principle (G) to apply pressure. Some splits required the use of several techniques (A and F; B, D and G; C and E).
