Gauze bandages were use to hold in place a large L shaped flap of skin while it was being reinforced. That part of the split that was in contact with a wooden structural element was backed with Japanese paper. Pressure during the gluing was maintained underneath by the wooden structural element protected by a silicone covered piece of cardboard, and by the gauze bandages on the outside.
