Community Rodeos

Though they do not attract international audiences or receive national television coverage, small local rodeos and memorial rodeos are still at the heart of rodeo life in many communities. Attracting local participants, stock contractors and announcers, these family and community rodeos have been held in some communities for over 100 years. Retired ranch hands test their once-familiar skills, and high school participants learn to handle the pressure of competition surrounded by family and friends. Community rodeos are also times to remember and celebrate the lives of cowboys who have died too young, or to honour the Elders for their long contribution to rodeo life.
