Rodeo has given the Native and non-Native communities hundreds of heroes. Skill and grace are only a small part of what makes a rodeo hero. For many people, what sets certain performers apart and makes people regard them as heroes is their courage and their generosity. Many communities on the Plains and Plateau have one or more such role models. Two Native rodeo greats who made their mark early in the twentieth century were Tom Three Persons and Jackson Sundown.
