Mastinsce (White Rabbit - Big Jim)

Mastinsce was an accomplished horseman, hunter and warrior by 1876 when the Battle of the Little Bighorn between the Lakota and the United States Army took place in 1876. In recalling the events of the battle, he always told how he retrieved a fine bay cavalry horse during the course of the fighting. He was riding that horse when he crossed the Medicine Line into Canada with the Lakota in 1877.
In 1881 he decided to stay in Canada rather than returning to the United States. For several years he was part of the main Lakota camp at Moose Jaw. Then in the 1890's the camp split and he became the leader of one
