Lloyd Goodtrack

1940 -

Lloyd Goodtrack, the grandson of Oye Washte and Ayuta Najin Ktewin,   was born at Wood Mountain. He did not go to school until he was ten years old, so he sometimes helped older boys break horses. He remembers talking to the horses and how the horses would listen, their ears twitching back and forth.
From 1950 to 1960 he attended the Lebret Indian School. At school he played the trombone in the band. Back at home during the summers he learned traditional songs from his grandfather and began playing the drum.
During the summer holidays his grandfather would take  him to Fir Mountain to see the picture show once a week.

They travelled with a wagon and a team.
Since 1960 Lloyd Goodtrack has lived on the Wood Mountain First Nations reserve. In 1996 he took part in the Unity Ride of the Lakota people, but he walked instead of riding.
