Shelley Niro is a well-known multidisciplinary artist working in the visual arts, film and photography. With seven solo exhibitions and more than 15 group exhibitions to her credit — including the Canadian Museum of Civilization's recent Reservation X — Ms. Niro is considered one of Canada's most important multidisciplinary Aboriginal artists. Her work reflects an interest in the importance of place, myth and self for today's Aboriginal peoples.

A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Ms. Niro is a member of the Mohawk Nation, Iroquois Confederacy, Turtle Clan, Six Nations Reserve and was born in Niagara Falls, New York. She has received numerous awards for her visual arts projects, including a prize from the New York State Historical Association for the exhibition Where We Stand, Contemporary Haudenosaunee Artists. Her latest film work, Honey Moccasin, combines storytelling and collective memory with humour to create a work which won recent awards at both the Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City and the Dreamspeakers Festival in Edmonton, Alberta.
