Country of OriginPerhaps the most easily identifiable wave of settlement are the French and British, who paved the way for an influx of cultural groups from all over the world. New Canadians have been vital to the development of Canada. Whether they were "pulled" by the promise of land and or "pushed" by difficult events in the land of their birth, millions have chosen Canada as their new home. Every nation on earth is represented in Canada's current population. For most of these people, their story does not begin when their ships dock in Halifax or when their plane touches down in Toronto or Vancouver. Each immigrant has a unique story to tell, and those stories begin in their country of origin.
