The Shoremaster
he shoremaster oversaw the
work done on the stage and the beach.
He also sent out fishermen to catch capelin with seines or other nets.
The capelin was distributed to the fishermen who caught the cod, to be
used as bait.
The shoremaster supervised the preparation, handling and drying of the
fish. He had meals prepared, and maintained discipline and order in
the seasonal or permanent station. The captain, pilot or fishing
proprietor often performed this role.
