Regrouping
When Karluk was swept away
towards Siberia, in September 1913, Stefansson was left without his flagship,
many of his men, and most of his supplies and equipment. To carry on with his
objectives, Stefansson began to purchase new supplies and hired men from other
ships. He also hired local men as hunters, and women
as seamstresses, from several localities along the Arctic coast to help in the
work of both parties of the CAE.
