The pamphlet Canada West: The Last Best West appeared annually for several years, in both British and American editions. The cover of the 1909 edition includes three key visual elements of Canadian advertising for immigrants: a bountiful harvest, a farmer and his team of horses, and an abundance of red and gold maple leaves.

The friendly cowboy-cum-farmer is improbably dressed in a striped shirt under his sleeveless jacket. This poster capitalised on the British public's fascination with the American west.

"Welcome Stranger!" is the American-style caption of this poster. The man waves at an approaching wagon, piled high with an (American?) settler's belongings.
