Okute Sica
Okute Sica was a youth when he came to Canada with his parents Tasina Hin Waste (Good Fur Robe) and Ape Lutawin (Red Wings). In 1888 he took Tasunke Nupawin as his wife. They had five children - John, Charles, Elizabeth, George and Walter.
He was a talented tracker and often was employed by the Mounted Police to search for missing horses. He always had a small herd of horses, some of which he acquired as donations from celebrations in the United States. When his horses became a nuisance to the settlers at Moose Jaw, he and his family moved to Wood Mountain in 1907. Both Okute Sica and Tasunke Nupawin lived on the reserve at Wood Mountain the rest of their lives and were buried there when they died. |
