Walrus James Houston received this piece from Osuitok Ipeelee as a parting gift when he left Cape Dorset in 1962. It marked the end of a long and mutually rewarding collaboration. Houston fondly remembers Osuitok's wife, Nepeesha, surrounded by her children, carrying the wrapped carving in the hood of her amautik down to the police plane that was waiting on the ice to take him south. |
