Tekarihogen (John Brant)
For the Six Nations of Grand River, the War of 1812 was a tragic civil war, with warriors from communities in Upper Canada and New York fighting on opposing sides. Tekarihogen (John Brant), the youngest son of Thayendanegea (Joseph Brant), was a leader among those who believed that First Peoples’ interests were best served through alliance with the British. He took part in the battles of Queenston Heights, Beaver Dams, Chippewa, Lundy’s Lane, and Fort Erie.
