Blockading the Coast
This painting which features the celebrated engagement between HMS Shannon and the USS Chesapeake, highlights British naval operations against the American east coast. Humiliated by a series of American victories over British warships, the British longed for revenge and vindication. This finally came on 1 June 1813, when HMS Shannon defeated and captured the USS Chesapeake after an eleven-minute battle off Boston, Massachusetts.
