Exhibition Theme - BattleA crater in the naval dockyard, Hong Kong
Leonard Rosoman RA (b. 1913)
The crater in the dockside has exposed the wooden structure underneath, and the metal cables within the concrete. The effect is to create, appropriately, a tentacled sea creature from the destruction that contrasts with the calm restored order of the junk boats in the harbour. Rosoman travelled with British Pacific Fleet to Australia and from there visited Hong Kong, where the landscape and post-liberation mood on the island greatly appealed to him.
