Ludwig Hirschfeld Mack (1895-1965)
Despite fellow artist Stella Bowen's efforts on behalf of her friend, Hirschfeld Mack spent the first years of the war in several internment camps: "Many of us in England are deeply ashamed of the way internees have been treated. They were our friends and they have been treated like cattle. But perhaps Australia will be more liberal. It could afford it."
