Early Ontario Iroquois ceramic pot; AD 1150-1250; Stafford Site, Elgin County
CMC VIII-F: 30837
The Canadian Museum of Civilization's archealogy activities trace back to the mid-nineteenth century. One of the Museum's archealogists, T.E. Lee, excavated this pot - likely used for cooking - in 1951 at an early Ontario Iroquois Traditional site in southwestern Ontario. In recent years, the museum has been restoring pots like these from thousands of pottery shards that are central to its archealogy collection.
