Created to replace the Penny Farthing, this bicycle is made of forged iron. Its adjustable wooden seat has no springs under it: hence it was known as a "boneshaker". Lacking the comforts of the modern bicycle, it has been relegated to the museum.

J.A. Whelpley made this bicycle in the 1860s in his factory in Greenwich, New Brunswick, on the Saint John River. Mr. Whelpley was an enthusiastic inventor in the nineteenth-century era of progress. His interests included skates, household appliances, iron toys, agricultural tools, and vehicles.
