Committed
to Evolution
One feature of the
Canadian electoral system that is sure to be part of its future
that will, indeed, shape its future is its commitment
to constant evolution. In recent years, many significant amendments
have been made to the Canada Elections Act. They introduced
broader access to the special ballot and polling day registration.
They widened Elections Canadas mandate to carry out public
information and education programs. They allowed the creation
of the National Register of Electors. Elections Canada has implemented
additional changes on the administrative side of elections, using
new technology to simultaneously reduce costs and improve services
to electors. Canadian society is constantly changing, and the
electoral system will respond, continuing to meet electors
needs.
