Newly-arrived settlers, Quebec City, ca.1908

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, immigrants to Canada arrived with trunks, crates, chests, suitcases and bags packed full of belongings to help them start a new life on the Prairies and elsewhere. Many examples of objects brought by immigrants are to be found in the Canadian Museum of Civilization's collections. The following examples come from two divisions within the Research and Collections Branch: Cultural Studies and History.
