Thin-sectioned caribou teeth are used to determine the age and season of death of animals killed at Nadlok. Mammalian teeth form cementum rings at their base like tree-rings. Not only does each ring represent a year, but a comparison of the width of the outside forming ring with the average inner ring thickness permits an assessment of the season of death, or when the archaeological sites were occupied. |
