Frozen sand and silt; i.e., permanently frozen ground or permafrost, supports all of Nadlok's structures. It is secure as long as it stays frozen. Heavy stone walls and people living on paved floors immediately above cause it to melt, resulting in a sinking floor that was corrected by adding more pavement. The sequence was repeated over the centuries of Nadlok's occupation.
