Kayaks of the Mackenzie Inuit

The Mackenzie Inuit (Inuvialuit) of the Western Canadian Arctic used kayaks that were similar in many respects to the light, round-bottomed craft of neighbouring Inuit in North Alaska and the Central Canadian Arctic. However, the Mackenzie kayak had a number of distinctive features, including its relatively small size, slightly ridged deck and short, upright end horns that could be used as handholds. These kayaks were extensively used in the Mackenzie River and Delta.
