Coast Salish-style dugout canoes were common in the Strait of Georgia, Puget Sound, and on the lower Fraser River. These canoes have long, truncated ends that are more horizontal than those on the somewhat similar Northern style canoes. The prow is often deeply notched just below a distinctive band that is carved along the length of the gunwales.
